Barcelona and Argentina super star, Lionel Messi has threatened to quit theArgentine national team if the La Albiceleste didn’t do well at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
It is recalled that Argentina were in the verge of not qualifying for next year’s World Cup if not the ingenuity of the five time Ballon d’Or winner, who made it possible by scoring hat-trick on the last game of the World Cup Qualifier against Ecuador.
The La Albicelesteof Argentina lost 4-2 to the Super Eagles of Nigeriarecently in the international friendlyin Krasnodar, Russia but the Argentines have since dismissed the outcome of the encounter as none issue as it is not going to have any effect when the two countries meet in competitive game next year in Russia.
The first to carpet Eagles’ victory over two time champions is Manchester City forward, Sergio Aguero who blamed his second half fainting that resulted in his being rushed to the hospital for the lost.
He explained that after he was rushed to the hospital, his teammates’ attention and focus were directed at his well-being hence they couldn’t concentrate any more on the game and that was responsible for their defeat.
Also speaking on why they lost, FC Barcelona defender, Fernanda Mascherano explained that he was exhausted and didn’t do what he ought to do which resulted to the Eagles advantage promising not to allow such mistakes repeat itself at the Mundial.
Meanwhile, former Argentine World Cup winning midfielder, Osvaldo Ardiles has heaped praises on the Super Eagles even going ahead to tip them to ruffle feathers at the Mundial next year saying they are physically powerful and more motivated to win their opening game against Croatia.
The 1978 World Cup winners named Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi and Ahmed Musa as the stars in the Super Eagles squad.
“Nigeria is very, very dangerous dream. True, they are no longer dug big stars like Finidi, Okocha, Kanu, and Amokachi. However, this is young energy loving team that wants to be at this level of its best time,” he said.
Continuing he said: “Nigeria could be unexpected favourites of the World Cup. They will play without any fear.
They have nothing to lose and very powerful. They are physically powerful and totally unpredictable.
“Argentina and Croatia will have to be very careful in the game with Nigeria with Croatia in my opinion being the most difficult because it plays the first game with them.
“In that opening match, the Nigerians will be most motivated. They want to show everything they know. They will know that getting three points will take them faraway.
“Therefore, Croatia must be very concentrated not only that as I recall, African teams usually know that they are betterat the beginning and less so as the championship moves.
“Here in England, play Moses in Chelsea, Iwobiin Arsenal and Musa in Leicester. Obi Mikel in Chelsea has gone to China. These are guys are simply unpredictable,” the words of the Argentine legend, Osvaldo Ardiles.
