The police in Lagos have commenced investigation on the death of a trader Mr Chekwube Nzediowu popularly known as ‘Azonto’ alleged to be a high ranking cultist at the Ladipo market area of the state.
The victim we gathered was killed at the weekend following a disagreement with a local vigilante group known as Alado boys in Lagos.
Dependable police source said the victim who owns a shop at the Ladipo spare parts market was killed at the Isheri Oshun area of the state when he left his house at Kerube area to an undisclosed hotel with his friend on a commercial motorcyclist popularly known as okada.
It was gathered that midway in the journey there was a disagreement with the ‘Okada’ rider which resulted in exchange of words and exchange of blows unknown to them the ‘okada man’ was a member of the local vigilante.
It was learnt that the ‘Okada’ rider had raised the alarm which attracted the local vigilante group claiming that the deceased and his friends were armed robbers who wanted to rob him of his motorcycle. “The alarm attracted other security men around who stabbed him to death while his friend escaped.
The deceased was reported to have bled profusely following the several cuts he received and help could not come his way immediately since it was at late hour of the night.
Sources said he was eventually rushed to the Isolo General Hospital where he was confirmed dead and his corpse was immediately deposited at Yaba mortuary for autopsy report.
Meanwhile, the police at Isheri Oshun Division have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged murder. The suspects whose identities were not disclosed by the police have been transferred to State Anti Robbery Squad at Ikeja for further interrogations.
When our correspondent visited Isheri Oshun Police Division, the DPO was not around for comments. However, sources at the police station confirmed the incident and referred the reporter to SARS for further inquiry.
