105 young women empowered in Cross River

About 105 young women have empowered with start up kits after undergoing several months of skills acquisition trainings.
The kits, include sewing machines, hair dressing equipment, liquid soap making equipment and assorted financial sums and were handed over by the Universal Women’s Fellowship through minister of women’s affairs, Barrister Uju Kennedy, represented by Mrs Angeleen Nkwocha of child welfare department.
The women earlier empowered 17 through long-term training alongside 35 sisters who were empowered with funds to startup mini businesses.
Besides this, school levies for 53 less privileged secondary school students, according to head of the group, Mrs Victoria Imowo.
She said the empowerment was part of activities to mark their 66th anniversary celebration.
Speaking during the presentation, the minister commended their efforts in helping the federal government actualize their Arise agenda which aimes at empowering women.
The minister also expressed the federal government’s willingness to bolster the efforts of Mansion of Blessedness, MOB, another women’s group which commissioned N85 million Mother Elizabeth Multipurpose Factory in Asiak Obufa Anyanganse community of Akpabuyo LGA of the State.
She said her ministry was very happy that a group of women was very committed in pulling their resources together to achieve such laudable initiative.
Head of MOB, Mrs Glory Oho disclosed that the National Assembly committee on Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, and Cross River Basin Development Authority, CRBDA, have expressed readiness to collaborate with them to sustain the initiative, trainings and empowerment.
