
2 confirmed dead in Lagos building collapse, four trapped
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed two people dead in the early Sunday morning collapse of a seven-storey building said to be still under construction in the Lekki area of the state.

The high-rise building which caved in early Sunday morning trapped six construction workers is located on Oba Idowu Oniru Street, beside Ave Maria Hospital in the SandField area of Lekki Phase One, in Lagos.
Confirming the fatalities, Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA, in a statement updating on development, two bodies have now been pulled out from the ruble of the collapsed building.
This is also as the agency’s boss, disclosed that rescue operations have at the site.
“Situation report on the collapsed building at Oba Idowu Oniru Street beside Ave Maria Hospital.
“The agency responded to a distress call at the above mentioned location and activated its response plan. Upon arrival at the scene, an uncompleted seven-storey building undergoing construction was found to have collapsed.
“Six people are reported to be trapped under the rubble of the collapsed structure. Two bodies have been located and recovered thus far. Operation ongoing.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu and Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye assured that search and rescue operations were underway.
Oke-Osanyintolu had in an earlier statement said no casualty was recorded in the incident.
“No injury sustained. However, about six people are reported to be trapped under the rubble of the collapsed structure.
“The agency’s heavy duty equipment excavator will be required for the rescue of the trapped victims. We have activated Lagos State Response plan. The operation is ongoing. More updates to follow.”
Earlier, the Lagos Territorial Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye, had confirmed the incident on Sunday.
“Seven-storey building collapsed at Sand field bus stop, Lekki. Six people are said to be trapped and responders on ground.”
