2 soldiers killed at military checkpoint in Enugu, as Army points ESN

Unknown gunmen have killed two soldiers on Monday night in an attack in a military checkpoint in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State.

It was gathered that the gunmen stormed the checkpoint and opened fire on the soldiers on duty, causing panic in the area.

Confirming the incident, Director, Army Public Relations of the 82 Division Enugu, Brig Gen, Onyema Nwachukwu alleged that the attack was carried out by Eastern Security Network (ESN).

He also confirmed that two soldiers were killed in the attack.

Nwachukwu said the military had launched a manhunt for the fleeing killers, even as he assured the general public of the commitment of the Nigerian Army to provide adequate security in collaboration with other security agencies.

“Nigerian Army troops deployed to checkmate the activities of gunmen at Adani community of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, yesterday 13 July 2021, repelled Eastern Security Network (ESN) gun attack on  troops’ location at Iggah/Asaba checkpoint.

“Sadly, during the fire fight that ensued, two soldiers paid the supreme price. Troops are currently on the trail of the criminals,” he said

“We also urge members of the public  to complement the effort of the security agencies by remaining law abiding and provide useful information on the fleeing gunmen”.
