2022 Qatar World Cup Qualifier: FIFA fixes December date for playoff
World football governing body, FIFA has announced December, this year for the draw of 3rd stage of qualifier in the Africa Zone.
FIFA, Friday, announced that the draw will take place on December 18th in Doha capital city of Qatar the host country of the competition.
The stage will follow after the final round of matches in the present group stages of the qualifiers. Winners who top their various groups are expected to proceed to the final playoff round to produce teams going to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup.
So far, out of 40 teams grouped in 10 groups, only Senegal and Morocco have qualified for the playoffs round after match-day 4 in their groups.
Nigeria currently tops Group C but will have to complete their two remaining matches against Liberia and Cape Verde to be assured of the ticket. An opportunity for straight qualification was missed when the Nigerian team lost at home to the Central African Republic, last week, though they redeemed themselves with victory at the reverse fixture.
Nigeria has 9 points and will play Lone Star of Liberia in the match-day 5 before hosting Cape Verde in the final group game.
