[From CHINEDU NWAFOR, Abakaliki]
Members of the Ebonyi State Council of Elders say they are presenting Governor David Umahi for the office of the president of Nigeria come 2023.
The Council made its position known on Tuesday during a press conference held at the Old Government House, Abakaliki, explained that Umahi was the most suited to lead Nigeria in 2023, adding that they had commenced consultation within and outside the South East region.
Chairman of the Council, Engr. Benjamin Okah, who was flanked by other members of the Council said that Umahi’s monumental achievements in areas of agriculture, education, commerce and industry, infrastructure, education and human capital development, have proven that he was the best for Nigeria.
“We have deemed it expedient and most important to present His Excellency, Engr. Dr. David Nweze Umahi FNSE, FNATE, to the people of Nigeria for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come May 2023. We make this statement confidently bearing in mind his track record, his belief in the oneness of Nigeria, his detribalized disposition on national issues.
“In consideration of the above and also the popular clamour for a president of South East Extraction we therefore call on Nigerians in different walks of life to come out in solidarity to give support to this project, to support a man of impeccable character with the zeal to develop our dear Country to compete with any other nations”.
“The Ebony State Council of Elders therefore will start consultations with other state, leaders and other stakeholders to realize this project. Ebony State truly has a good and qualified person in Governor David Nweze Umahi FNSE, FATE for President and Nigerians will never regret having him”, Okah said.
Adding further, he said: “Following and realizing that the level of allocation from FAAC to Ebony State is very low when compared with the enormous infrastructural development in the State, we the members of the Ebony State Council of Elders decided to have on the spot assessment of some landmark projects in the State by embarking on visitation of State projects.
“On the first day (of our tour of projects by Gov. Umahi) we were at the International Airport under construction. On arrival, we were greeted with unexplainable and monumental structures on
the site. One of the things that struck us was the runway made of reinforced concrete not seen in any part of this country and of international standard.
“For instance, the runway has a thickness of 0.35m, a width of 75m, and a length 3.1km or 3,100m. Also, the local and the international aprons are bearing a thickness of 0.3m, and each covers a total of 50,000sqm”.
“Another structure in the Airport that made us speechless was the terminal building. The terminal building that is near completion is so massive and when completed will be a sight to behold by any local or international traveler or visitor. Other facilities already in place are the Gatehouse 99.9% completed, the Immigration Office over 90% completed, the Fire Bay over 90% completed, the Central Tower 50% completed, Police Post over 90% completed and the Presidential Lodge at 85% completed. The members of the Elders Council noted that with Eboni State fast turning into another economic hub, the viability of the airport is assured”.
