2023: Nwaogu seeks return to senate 8yrs after, declares interest to contest Abia Central senatorial poll

Former senator, who represented Abia Central Senatorial Zone from 2007 to 2015 in the Senate, Mrs Nkechi Nwaogu, has indicated her interest to contest the seat ahead of the 2023 elections on the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Declaring her intention to run for the Abia Central Senatorial seat, Mrs Nwaogu said her mission was to offer effective representation with the objective of drawing the Zone back from legislative redundancy witnessed since 2015, reposition the zone to reap maximum democratic dividends and champion gender equality at the national level.
“A vote for Senator Nkechi Nwaogu is a vote for emancipation, liberation, restoration and resuscitation of Abia Central from the shackles of misrepresentation and legislative redundancy,” she said at the declaration ground in Umuahia, Abia State capital, on Thursday.
Apart from uplifting her constituents, Senator Nwaogu also promised to fight for gender equality and ensure that gender equality bill rejected by the National Assembly would be revisited and passed.
The former Pro-chancellor of University of Calabar who titled her speech; “Message of Restoration,” said she has the experience and may clinch a top position in the Senate leadership if she wins the Abia Central Senatorial seat, and counseled the Zone to field candidates that would come out victorious in the general contest among the political parties.
Harping on her advantage over other aspirants who may indicate interest after her, Mrs. Nwaogu said: “APC ticket is a Jewel of inestimable value which must be given to candidates that are popular, credible and determined to win election and I’m among the candidates in Nigeria that have this prerequisite factor.
“Check my records, I have done it before and I will do it again, all the previous positions I handled were beneficial to the youths.
“As a ranking senator and having navigated through the rudiments of the parliament, I stand a better chance than anyone else to attract the much desired democracy dividends to Abia Central.
“I’m going back to the Senate to champion a cause for gender equality and make sure that the gender equality bill that was rejected by the Senate is reversed,” she said.
Immediate past Chairman of Abia APC, Chief Donatus Nwankpa, the current State Chairman, Obioma Iheanacho and Chairman of the occasion, Barr. Chinwe Nwanganga (SAN), all extolled the sterling qualities of the aspirant, describing her as the most qualified.
However, the APC State Chairman, Iheanacho, assured that the state committee would provide a level playing field for the aspirants during the party primary to elect its candidates.
