2023: Obi Support Group berates Kaduna Gov. El-Rufai for blocking planned use of Arewa House
Supporters of the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Dr. Peter Obi, and his running mate, Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, have berated the Kaduna Governor, Nasir el-Rufai for deliberately obstructing the group’s use of the Arewa House in the state for its planed stakeholders’ meeting.
The supporters, under the aegis of the Peter Obi Support Network (PSON) condemned Governor el-Rufai for disrupting the conduct of a planned Northern Summit in support of Mr. Peter Obi at the Arewa House in the state, despite having already paid for use of the facility.
The summit was planned for Tuesday, July 19.
It would be recalled that with barely 24 hours to the scheduled summit at the Arewa House, the facility’s Manager informed the group that it cannot hold the event at the complex.
The summit was planned to gather Obi/Datti supporters from across the 19 Northern States of the country.
In a statement read to the media, Monday, Comrade Sani Saeed Altukry, spokesperson for the POSN, explained that ‘the summit is not, in any way, a political campaign, but rather a gathering of supporters and potential supporters of the Obi-Datti project who will engage in necessary interaction and idea-sharing.’
The group further accused the state governor of having a hand in the decision by the Arewa House to cancel the summit.
POSN said ‘el-rufai is too small to stop the Peoples Movement which Peter Obi represents,’ further ‘vowing not to succumb to intimidation aimed at suppressing the liberation of northern Nigeria from under-development and poverty.’
“We condemn the decision of the Governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir El-rufai to block the hosting of the Northern Summit for Peter Obi and Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) and his running mate at the Arewa House in the state.
“The decision of the Governor is disheartening at the critical point in time when Northern Nigerians are desperate for development and liberation from poverty due to maladministration.
“The Governor of Kaduna state is intimidated by the rising profile of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, across the length and breadth of the country.
“The Governor should know that this is a ‘Peoples Movement’ which can never be stopped.
“The Movement represents all oppressed Nigerians and everyone that desires good governance, and Governor El-rufai is too small to suppress it,” Sani Saeed Altukry said.
