Mr. Duke said this in Calabar while receiving some defecting members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defecting members were lead by Ntufam Ekpo Okon, a former state chairman of the PDP.

Duke criticized the ruling party in the state saying they are leading the state to the wilderness.

He added that the state ought to be among the 5 wealthiest states in Nigeria today.

“We will not rest on our oars and will not take anything for granted.

“Those that are stranger elements came in and we opened the door for them and we allowed them occupy seats that founders should have.

“Those who are in charge of the state do not know where we came from and are taking us to the wilderness.

“I know where we ought to be. This state should have been among the five wealthiest in the country but our benevolence got the better of us”, Duke said.

He said the returning members went in sabbatical and are back to enrich the party.

He added that come rain or sunshine, Cross River State remains a PDP state.

On his part the state chairman of the party, Venatius Ikem said they are in a harvest season in the state and the party will certainly reclaim the state.

Ekpo Okon, in his reaction said they are not happy with the situation in the state and country.

He said the state library in Calabar shows the level of decay in Cross River State.

He stressed that as a man of conscience, he has to join a party that is poised to salvage the state and country.
