Group, under the aegis of Nsukka Ezue, has raised the alarm over what it termed attempts by some governorship aspirants in Enugu to destabilise peace by opposing the governorship zoning arrangement in the state
The membership of Nsukka Ezue is drawn from the six Local Government Areas that made up Enugu North Senatorial District, namely; Nsukka, Igboeze-South, Enugu, Igboeze-North, Igboetiti, Udenu and Uzowani.
A statement made available to Journalists in Nsukka on Friday and signed by the National Chairman of the group, Prof Damian Opara, said said the dialogue resolved to strongly support Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s decision to sustain the zoning arrangement in the interest of peace and fairness in the three senatorial districts in the state.
The group said the zoning arrangement in the state, favoured Enugu East Senatorial district to produce governor for Enugu State in 2023.
“The group unanimously support Ugwuanyi’s decision that zoing in the state that started since 1999 in Enugu State should continue.
“That Ugwuanyi should also produce his successor like his predicessors former Gov Chimaroke Nnamani and former Gov Sullivan Chime did.
“Nsukka Ezue strongly condern attempt by some desperate governoship aspirants to frustrate the existing zoing arrangement in Enugu State because of their personal ambitions,” the group said.
“In 1999 to 2007 former Gov Chimaroke Nnamani from Enugu East district, 2007 to 2015 former Gov Sullivan Chime from Enugu West district.
“From 2015 till 2023, the incumbent Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi from Enugu North district.
“Now the rotation has gone round to three senatorial districts, it should start again in 2023 from Enugu East district where it started in 1999,” the group added.
