2023: Umahi calls for special training for Corps involved in 2023 polls

Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has called for special training of Corps Members that would serve as ad-hoc staff to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the 2023 general elections.
Umahi who made the call on Thursday in Abakaliki, when he received on a courtesy visit the Chairman of the National Governing Council of the National Youth Service Corps, Amb Fatima Abubakar at the old Government House, Abakalilki, said the training would further equip the Corps Members to be able to defend themselves against unforseen violence during the elections.
Umahi who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Eric Kelechi Igwe, also charged the leadership of scheme to put to use the Ezzilo Demonstration Farm provided to them by the state Government or be prepared to loose it
“We are not happy that the demonstration farm donated to NYSC is not adequately utilized and if nothing is done, government shall take it over and share to our indigenes who are willing to Farm.”
The Governor, noted that his administration had always assisted the scheme, and had embarked on renovation of dilapidated structures and access roads in the orientation camp at Afikpo.
He assured that government won’t relent in paying regularly, allowances of Corps members and urged private firms in the State, that engage Corps Members, to always do same.
He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of corps members in the State and assured that government would also make welfare of corps members a priority.
The Chairman of the NYSC Board, Amb Fatima Abubakar, in her remarks, commended Ebonyi State Government for its numerous interventions for the scheme in the State, which she listed to include, handing over Ezilo Demonstration Farm to the scheme, regular release of cash awards to deserving corps members and renovation of structures in the camp.
The Chairman, however, appealed to the state government to re-consitute the state NYSC Board and increase action on the ongoing renovation of structures in the Orientation camp.
