2023: We’ll not discriminate against opposition parties during campaigns—Umahi

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, has pledged that he would not discriminate against any political party in the state throughout the campaign period for the 2023 general elections.

Umahi who noted that all the members of different political parties in the state are all Ebonyi people, said there was no need to discriminate against them.

He spoke at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki, on Saturday, while addressing the people of the state on the occasion of the celebration of Nigeria at 62 and Ebonyi at 26.

Umahi also used the occasion flagg off the 2nd phase of financial grants to the people with 8,000 expected to benefit from it.

He opined that the state was for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in next year general election and warned against trouble making during the political campaigns.

“Let me emphasize that in 2023, its going to be Ebonyi State first and our party is APC. Nobody developed Ebonyi State, it’s we, Ebonyi people, that develop Ebonyi State. So, the interest of Ebonyi State will be paramount. We stand with the broom and we have started sweeping.

“Let me assure Ebonyians of a very smooth campaign in this state. We will not discriminate against any party, they are all our people but if any party whether APC or PDP or Labour Party, anyone gets mad, I will give the person the resistance that is proportional to the power of two that he is bringing to the state.

“There is no sentiment, my mission is Ebonyi State. If you have your sentiment, keep it to the boundary. If you come with the sentiment here and you ferment trouble, I will decisively resist you”, the Governor said.

The Governor announced the ban on the use of siren in the state and disclosed that Ebubeagu security operatives arrested a vehicle with siren which was carrying arms into the state to kill the people.

“If you want to come and kill in the name of politics, you will not live till that day. We created and fortified Ebubeagu security outfit which has over 4,000 officials who are paid monthly. We are banning the use of siren. If you are not in that category, do not come to Ebonyi with siren, we will not allow you.

“Ebubeagu, they have arrested a number of people at 1:am with siren carrying arms to come and kill our people, the CP is aware and they are cooling off”.
