The Cross River State government has earmarked about 333 billion in the 2025 budget estimates to fund infrastructural development.
This follows the signing into law of the N538,523,915,715.99 billion naira 2025 budget of the state by the governor which is tagged “Budget of Sustainable Growth”
Senator Bassey Edet Otu who signed the 2025 budget into law said infrastructure development is a cornerstone of his administration’s agenda.
This commitment to infrastructure development, the governor said reflects his vision for sustainable development in Cross River State, aiming to improve the quality of life for its citizens and boost the state’s economic growth.
Governor Otu, at the signing ceremony, emphasized his administration’s commitment to fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life for all citizens.
He outlined his vision for a prosperous Cross River State, where residents can thrive and enjoy a better future.
“The 2025 budget, with a total size of N538,523,915,715.99 billion, reflects our deep commitment to economic growth, infrastructure development, and improving the well-being of our people.
“Infrastructure is the backbone of sustainable development, and we are resolute in our determination to create world-class infrastructure for Cross River State,” he said.
62% of the budget, amounting to N333,343,387,290.83 billion, has been allocated for capital expenditure.
These funds, The Will understands will be directed towards critical infrastructure projects, including road construction, healthcare facilities, educational infrastructure, and other long-term initiatives aimed at fostering development and creating jobs.
On the other hand, 38% of the budget, equivalent to N250 billion, is dedicated to recurrent expenditure.
This allocation covers essential government operations, such as salaries, pensions, healthcare services, and education, ensuring the seamless functioning of public institutions and services.
Governor Otu praised the state legislature for swiftly approving the budget, saying, “Their dedication ensures we’re on track to start 2025 strong.”
Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly Elvert Ayambem highlighted the budget’s evolution.
He said the initial proposal submitted by the governor on October 28, 2024, was N498 billion.
The legislature, through its finance and appropriation committee, reviewed the proposal and increased it to N538.5 billion.”
