3 confirmed dead as car plunges into river on Ijebu Ode/Ore expressway
Three persons were pulled out dead from the wreckage of a car which plunged into the Omo River along the along busy the Ijebu Ode/Ore Expressway in Ogun State, Saturday.
Confirming the accident, the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), also disclosed that one passenger in the ill-fated car, however, survived the accident and was rushed to the Hope Clinic J4 for medical attention.
The FRSC also said the bodies of the three dead passengers have been deposited at state’s state General Hospital morgue, in Ijebu-Ode for identification by their families.
A statement issued by the Chief Route Commander and Public Education Officer of the sector, Florence Okpe, said the accident occurred Saturday morning and involved a Toyota Sienna car with the registration number APP 830HX.
According to Okpe, the suspected cause of the lone car crash was excessive speed which further led to loss of control by driver resulting in the vehicle plunging into the river.
Reacting, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the Corps, Anthony Uga, described the crash as an avoidable one if caution was considered.
He further lamented the speed violation among motorists, especially the commercial vehicles on that route.
The Sector Commander, however, appreciated the effort of responders, including local divers for the rescue operation and also sympathized with the families of the victims.
