3 rescued, as Lagos Governor, Sanwo-Olu orders probe into building collapse

Combined efforts of the Lagos Rescue Unit (LRU), Lagos State Fire Service and Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) reportedly saved the lives of at least three persons trapped in the collapsed 21-storey building on Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, while rescue operations are still ongoing.

This is also as the Lagos Government called for calm over the collapse today of a 21-storey building, which is under construction on Gerrard Road, Ikoyi.

Lagos Rescue Unit (LRU), Lagos State Fire Service and Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) are on the site, battling to save the lives of those under the rubble. Three persons have been rescued, even as the operations to save more lives continue.
Governor Sanwo-Olu has ordered an investigation into the incident.
A statement by the Commissioner for Information & Strategy in the state, Gbenga Omotoso, said ‘a report of the investigations will be made public in due course.’

Meanwhile, state’s Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has visited the site in the company of other officials, including the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako; Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Bamgbose- Martins; Special Adviser on Urban Development, Mr. Ganiyu Adele Ayuba; Special Adviser, GIS and Physical Planning, Dr. Olajide Babatunde; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mrs. Abiola Kosegbe, as well as, General Manager, LASEMA Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu.
On arrival at the scene, the Deputy Governor instructed that immediate investigation be conducted by government agencies in the built environment, just as he directed that the location be cordoned off to facilitate rescue efforts and prevent onlookers from moving within close proximity of the site.
As part of investigations, the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, Arch. Gbolahan Oki was also at the scene to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of any likely damage to the surrounding structures within the vicinity.
The collapsed building was part of three towers being built by private developer, Fourscore Homes.
Fourscore Homes and Investment Limited, according to Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) documents, is owned by businessman, Mr. Olufemi Adegoke Osibona.
His company was incorporated in Ojota, Nigeria with Registration Number 412217, and registered on 24 May 2001.
He is also said to be the older brother of Mr Lanre Osibona, a Special Assistant to the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.
In a brochure for potential clients, the company promises to offer ‘a stress-free lifestyle, complete with a hotel flair.’
The cheapest unit was selling for at least N500 million.
