50 passengers escape unhurt, as United Nigeria Airlines aircraft skids off Lagos airport runway
United Nigeria Airlines operated Embraer 145 aircraft carrying 50 passengers, Wednesday, skid off runway 18L of the Murtala Mohammed Airport 2 (MMA2), Ikeja, in Lagos, with no casualties reported.
According the airline, the aircraft with registration number 5N-BWW, was arriving from the Ebonyi airport when the accident occurred, Wednesday afternoon.
Head, Corporate Communications United Airlines, Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu who confirmed the accident, added that the aircraft landed safely but was forced to terminate its movement to the apron off the runway.
According to him, all the passengers disembarked safely and were transported to the Arrival Hall of the Lagos airport with their luggage.
Officials of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) arrived the scene of the incident and joined UNA engineers in removing the aircraft to the hanger.
UNA further disclosed that the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) ‘have been duly noticed and are on the scene.’
“United Nigeria is collaborating fully with the authorities,” Chud Uchegbu said, reassuring the public that ‘it maintains strictest safety standards in its operations and shall continue to prioritize passenger safety at all times.’
