500 athletes to vie for glory at Calabar Table Tennis Championship

About five hundred table tennis athletes are expected to compete in the second edition of the Calabar Table Tennis championship.
The athletes are largely drawn from the six states of the South South region of the country.
Secretary, Cross River State Table Tennis Association Effioawan Ntiero disclosed this during a courtesy call on the Cross River State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Archibong Bassey.
She said the event is scheduled to hold on Friday,
13th, and Saturday, 14th December 2024, at 10:00 am daily, at the Table Tennis Hall, U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar, Cross River State.
She explained that the tournament will serve as a platform to highlight the rich sporting culture of Cross River State, foster youth engagement, and promote healthy living through sports.
She solicited for the support of the NUJ in actively participating in the event by covering the activities, interacting with athletes and stakeholders, and amplifying the message of youth empowerment and sports development.
In her reaction, Comrade Archibong Bassey pledged the support of the NUJ in ensuring the success of the championship.
She said the union is conscious of the positive impact sports plays in the socio economic development of any society.
She added that the union is happy to partner with the state tennis association and will amplify the message of youth empowerment and sports development in the course of the championship
