At last, Inter Milan, Chelsea agree €115m deal for Lukaku, medicals scheduled this weekend
Serie A giants, Inter Milan have accepted Chelsea’s offer of €115 million (£93.25m) for Romelu Lukaku, without any player added.
Lukaku, a former player at Chelsea had specifically requested that the deal be concluded in 48 hours, even as Inter Milan owner had similarly mandated his management team to wrap up the transaction as soon as possible following the heated debate and opposition from club hierarchy over the deal.
Inter are said to be in a financial troubles and in need of the funds to stay afloat, a situation which the acceptance of PSG’s offer on right back Hachimi Achraf, earlier this transfer window.
Confirming Lukaku’s imminent departure from Inter, Saturday, trusted transfer insider and Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, informed via his Twitter handle that Chelsea have offered just cash to land Lukaku instead of adding a player as part of the deal.
Earlier this week, the Blues made an opening offer of €100 million plus Marcos Alonso for Lukaku, which was turned down by Inter Milan.
According to Romano, Lukaku is set to sign a long-term contract with Chelsea, which would see the 28-year-old Belgian forward earn close to €12 million per annum.
Chelsea will now be signing Lukaku for the second time in a decade.
The Blues first signed the 28-year-old forward from Belgian side Anderlecht in the summer of 2011 for an initial fee of €15 million.
Said to be one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, Lukaku scored 87 goals in 166 games for Everton between 2014 and 2017 and found the net 42 times in 96 appearances during his two years at Manchester United before signing for Inter in 2019.
He scored 24 goals in Serie A last season, helping Inter to their first Scudetto in 11 years as the club put an end to Juventus’ nine-year reign as Italian top-flight champions.
