200-level UniZik student commits suicide on campus

A 200-level student of Industrial Physics in Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UniZik), Awka, has reportedly committed suicide.
The deceased allegedly hung himself on the wardrobe at the students’ Hall located at his lodge.
The name of the deceased who hailed from Isuikwuato Local council of Abia State could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
Circumstances surrounding his death was also sketchy, but the police in Awka, Anambra State has commenced investigation into the incident.
A sources told our Correspondent that the deceased often complained of lack of care from his parent over his academic programme.
“He was often heard quarrelling with his mother over money. He used to asked her: if you cannot fund my education, why did you bring me to school?
“For some time, he had not been eating”, his roommates were quoted as saying.
The deceased, it was gathered, took his life when his roommates were away and when the door was broken, a rope was seen round his neck.
The Chief Security Officer of the institution, Ken Chukwura, said the deceased’s roommates had been invited for questioning while investigation had commenced.
He called on the students to go about their activities without fear as the situation had be put under control.
His corpse had been evacuated to the mortuary.
Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, described the incident as unfortunate but disclosed that investigations had commenced.
“The Command is still gathering information about the incident. We have invited some of his friends. For the police, it is after the details are gathered that we know whether it is a suicide or not,” he said.
