Bandits abduct Niger traditional ruler
Traditional ruler, the Dodo of Wawa in Borgu local government area of Niger State, Dr Mahmud Ahmed Aliyu, has been abducted.
He was reportedly abducted from his palace in Wawa town, Saturday night and taken to an unknown destination.
Wawa has one the oldest emirates carved out of Kwara State when Niger was created.
The Dodo of Wawa used to be a second class chief under the old Kwara State but downgraded to a district head in Niger State.
A source close to the palace said that bandits numbering about seven, stormed the palace after the late evening prayers and seized the district head who has just returned from the mosque.
He said the kidnappers arrived the palace on motorcycles, shooting sporadically into the air and headed for their target, the Emir.
“From all indication, their mission was to take away the Dodo because they didn’t branch anywhere neither did they abducted anyone else,” he explained.
