Ex-President Jonathan addresses APC defection rumours, says ‘it’s fake news’
Following weeks of speculations about his political future with claims of defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, has finally opened up on rumours of his plans to contest the 2023 Presidency under the platform of the ruling party.
Speaking through his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, Wednesday, the immediate past Nigerian leader and chieftain of the main opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), described claims of his defection to the APC as ‘fake news.’
“The report is Fake News. If he defects it would be announced through the proper Channels. This is a man that’s very busy with other things”, Eze said.
According to Eze, ex-President Jonathan ‘has not moved or considered moving to the ruling party.’
It would be recalled that the media space has been awash with claims of Jonathan finalizing plans of defection the APC which has allegedly offered him the 2023 Presidential ticket.
This is even as many claimed that the former leader was bidding his time, as he is reportedly the preferred candidate of incumbent President Muhammad Buhari for the position come 2023.
The claims were further fueled with pictures showing Jonathan with APC chieftains at social and political functions in the country.
