How NECA DG Timothy Olawale died
The Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA) has officially announced the death of its Director General, Dr Timothy Olawale.
In a statement, the Association Secretariat said “It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Timothy Olawale -our Director General, which occurred on 1st October 2021 at a Hospital in Abuja.
“He is survived by a wife, children and other relatives. We pray the good Lord to grant his family and us all, the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.
“The Association is in contact with the family and more information will be communicated in due course.”
In a related development, earlier report about the demise of the gentle-going DG has it that the DG who was in Abuja for a board meeting, reportedly died on Friday while attending a meeting in the federal capital.
According to that report by Telegraph newspaper, the NECA DG attended a meeting on 30 September in Abuja and later attended another meeting on 1 October 2021. He was on his seat during the meeting yesterday, October 1 when he could no longer get up from his seat and before help could get to him, he was gone.
Olawale was confirmed as the sustantive Director General of the association in January 2019, after six months in acting capacity.
He succeded Segun Oshinowo, who retired in December, 2018 after serving the association for 19 years.
His last public appearance was on Friday 17 September 2021 when NECA hosted the Organised Private Sector of Nigeria (OPSN) press briefing on VAT.
