NECA: Timothy Olawale died ‘after a brief illness’, says President Adeniyi
The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has clarified the circumstances surrounding the death of its Director-General , Dr. Timothy Olawale , saying he died after a brief illness on Friday ,1st October in a hospital .
Earlier report about the demise of the gentle-going DG had it that he was in Abuja for a board meeting, reportedly died on Friday while attending a meeting in the federal capital. The late NECA DG attended a meeting on 30 September in Abuja and later attended another meeting on 1 October 2021. He was on his seat during the meeting in October 1 when he could no longer get up from his seat and before help could get to him, he was gone.
But a statement on Saturday by the President of NECA , Mr. Taiwo Adeniyi , said contrary to false information being peddled about how Olawale died, “he died, after a brief illness on Friday, 1st October, 2021 in the hospital”
Said Adeniyi :”We wish to announce the sad demise of our Director General, Dr. Timothy Olawale.
He was on official assignment at Abuja when he fell Ill and was taken to the hospital for immediate medical attention on Thursday, 30th September, 2021.
Contrary to false information being peddled, he died, after a brief illness on Friday, 1st October, 2021 in the hospital.
“Burial arrangements would be announced as soon as possible.”
Olawale was confirmed as the substantive Director-General of NECA in January 2019, after six months in an acting capacity.
He succeeded Segun Oshinowo, who retired in December 2018 after serving the association for 19 years.
Meanwhile,the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has expressed shock over the death of Olawale.
The President of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba in a statement on Saturday, said that the late NECA DG while in the saddle, demonstrated a high level of professionalism and camaraderie with other social partners especially labour.
Wabba said Dr Olawale was always very objective in dealing with matters of industrial relations as his work ethos was justice and equity.
The statement read: “It was with great shock that the Nigeria Labour Congress received the news of the sudden demise of the Director-General of the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), Dr Timothy Olawale, yesterday, 1st October 2021 in Abuja.
