[From ANIEKAN ANIEKAN, Calabar]
Organised Labour in Cross River State have suspended its five weeks old Industrial Action.
The suspension follows the intervention of the Chairman of the Cross River State Traditional Rulers Council and Paramount Ruler of Bakassi, Etinyin Etim Okon Edet.
As part of the intervention, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between labour, representatives of the state government as well as the traditional ruler.
The government will be given four to five months to fully implement the agreement contained in the MOU.
Chairman of the State Joint Negotiations Council Godwin Otei said the industrial action was called because the state government ran short of their expectations.
He however commended the Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Council for intervening, adding that he hopes government will do the needful.
On his part, Comrade Ben Ukpepi the State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress said the strike action just called off is the longest in the history of the state and shows the insensitivity of government.
