Two suspected female traffickers arrested with two babies concealed in poly bags

Two suspected traffickers identified as Achibong from Akwa Ibom and Blessing Akpan from Cross River State have been arrested in Ebonyi State for allegedly concealing two babies in polyethylene bags to beat security checks.
The suspected who were arrested on Monday at Abaomege axis of Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State by a combined efforts of the operatives of Ebube-Agu security network and the community vigilante, were said to be coming from Cross River State.
“The security men (Ebubeagu) who were on stop and search at the border between Ebonyi state and Cross River upon checking their vehicle was shocked to discover that about a week old baby wrapped in baby’s cloth was in one of the suspect’s sack, while another baby of about two weeks was seen in another sack belonging to the second suspect who happens to be a pregnant woman,” a source told our Correspondent.
It was further gathered that the wife of the State Governor, Mrs Rachel Umahi, who was noticed of the development had instructed that the babies be taken to the intensive care unit (ICU) of federal teaching hospital Abakaliki for adequate care while investigations continues.
Reacting, the Executive Chairman of Onicha LGA, Engr. Felix Ogbonna Igboke thanked the Ebube-Agu security network and the community vigilante for a job well done and charged every community leader(s) to be vigilant and watchful always as security was the job of everyone.
As of the time filing this report, the suspects, it was gathered, were already in police custody for further investigations.
Efforts to reach the State Police Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah failed.
