Kinsmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the just-concluded governorship election in Anambra State, Andy Uba, have revealed why they advised the politician against challenging the victory of Professor Charles Soludo in court.
Spokesman of Uba and convener of a general meeting of all 45 communities, Nzukora of Old Aguata Union (OAU), in the state, Mr Peter Okala, in a statement at the weekend, said challenging Soludo’s victory in the court was not in the interest of the Anambra South people.
According to him, Uba was cautioned against going to Court to contest the victory of the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Charles Soludo because ‘Uba and Soludo are both from Old Aguata Union.
“We discouraged Uba from going to Court against Soludo, to ensure that the turn of Anambra South to govern the state is not truncated as a result of litigation.”
“We will do everything possible, including going spiritual to protect Soludo’s victory, he vowed.
Explaining further, he said, “we want to restate the resolve of our Socio Cultural Organization to protect the secured mandate that could slip as a result of litigation, there have been cases that resulted in another inheriting an unmerited office as a result of litigation, it’s the turn of Anambra South but litigation could encourage the transfer of the mandate to the North or Central.”
“There are occasions where even a Deputy gets to the office for one reason or the other, we the Nzukora is on it together in the spirit of ‘iheadikanwanne’ (brotherhood) and would not retreat from our resolve until total security of the office for our own is achieved.”
“As an organization, we are ready to go spiritual to protect that office in the eight years of the gentleman agreement that is on going to the State, we also add that it’s not entirely because it was Prof Chukwuma Soludo, Andy Uba or any other Son or daughter of Old Aguata Union could enjoy the same privilege if he or she won convincingly.”
“We are proud because Prof Chukwuma Soludo will never embezzle our State fund but set a new standard of transparency and accountability which he demonstrated as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria”.
