NGX: Investors lose N237.89bn as ASI plummets by -1.08%
Equities market closed (Wednesday, December 29, 2021) on a negative note, as NGXASI depreciated by -1.08% to close at 41,807.10 basis points as against +0.08% appreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) returns currently stands at +3.82%.
Market breadth closed negative as UBN led 18 Gainers as against 16 Losers topped by BUACEMENT at the end of today’s session an improved performance when compared with previous outlook.
Market turnover closed positive as volume up by +61.10% as against -47.02% downtick recorded in the previous session.
JAIZBANK, UBN and UACN were the most active to boost market turnover. MTNN and ZENITHBANK topped market value list.

At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 180,181,625 shares in 3,828 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 1,480,796,664.03, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, December 24), today’s data shows 61% improvement in volume, 62% improvement in turnover, and 85% improvement in deals. The current market capitalisation of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 21.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 100 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 18 gainers and 16 losers. N.E.M. Insurance Company led the gainers with 100% share price appreciation closing at NGN 4.84 per share, followed by Union Bank Nigeria (+9.91%), Royal Exchange (+9.09%) and Sovereign Trust Insurance (+7.69%).
On the losing side, BUA Cement came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 67.05 per share, followed by May & Baker Nigeria (-9.98%), PZ Cussons Nigeria (-8.96%) and Jaiz Bank (-8.06%). Jaiz Bank recorded the highest volume of 17.7 million traded shares, followed by Union Bank Nigeria (16.8m), UAC of Nigeria (UACN) (12.9m) and Transnational Corp. of Nigeria (11.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) declined 455.75 (-1.08%) points to close at 41,807.10, representing a 1-week loss of 1.39%, a 4-week loss of 3.38%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 3.82%.
