NGX: Investors records N2.20bn loss as ASI dips marginally by 0.01%
Equities market closed on a negative note, as NGXASI depreciated by -0.01% to close at 44,604.74 basis points as against +1.71% appreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) returns currently stands at +4.42%.
Market breadth closed positive as TRANSCORP led 14 Gainers as against 15 Losers topped by NEM at the end of today’s session – an unimproved performance when compared with previous outlook.
Market turnover closed positive as volume up by +20.81% as against -9.58% downtick recorded in the previous session. TRANSCORP, JAIZBANK and MBENEFIT were the most active to boost market turnover. SEPLAT and MTNN topped market value list
At the end of today’s trading session on the NGX, a total of 321,753,226 shares in 4,565 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,655,003,165.22, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, January 12), today’s data shows 21% improvement in volume, 4% decline in turnover, but 1% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 24 trillion.
In the aggregate, 107 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 14 gainers and 15 losers. Transcorp Nigeria led the gainers with 9.71% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.13 per share, followed by Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (+7.94%), Regency Alliance Insurance Co. (+7.14%) and Jaiz Bank (+6.06%). On the losing side, N.E.M. Insurance Company came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 3.96 per share, followed by Custodian & Allied (-9.49%), UAC of Nigeria (UACN) (-5.21%) and FTN Cocoa Processors (-5.13%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 105 million traded shares, followed by Jaiz Bank (66.7m), Mutual Benefits Assurance (13.7m) and FBN Holdings (12.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 4.08 (-0.01%) points to close at 44,604.74, representing a 1-week gain of 2.29%, a 4-week gain of 5.17%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 4.42%.
