C’River reaffirms commitment to welfare of service personnel

Cross River Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of all service personnel serving in the state.
Permanent Secretary, Special Services, Governor’s office, Dr. Alfred Mboto disclosed this at the sidelines of the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration in the state.
Dr. Mboto said the state government lead by His Excellency, Professor Ben Ayade prioritizes issues of security hence the motivation to security agencies in the state particularly those attached to Operation Akpakwu.
He charged servicemen to put in their best for the country and also encouraged residents to volunteer useful information.
Dr. Mboto said: “The officers are seriously motivated because by the government and are not being owed. Their allowances are being provided promptly as well as vehicles and all support required.
“The present administration has been very serious with security and there has been that synergy, motivation and encouragement”.
On the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration, he said, “the celebration is an encouragement for those who are still living that if you die in the course of service, the nation will not forget you.
“So this is an assurance for officers to put in their best to fight for the country”, he said.
As part of this year’s celebration, the Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. F. Yahaya (NAM) presented a brand new Hilux car to a retired soldier, Awo Stephen Ekpe.
The presentation was done by the Commander of the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. PP Malla during this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
A wreath was laid at the tomb of the unknown soldier by the State Deputy Governor Professor Ivara Esu as well as the speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams.
The unknown soldier was also honoured with a wreath by the State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Akon Ikpeme as well as the Commander of the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Maj. General PP Malla.
Others who laid wreath include the commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship Victory, State Police Commissioner, Commandant of the Naval War College, State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, among other officers.
