APC disowns ‘fake’ zoning list, says no decision yet on arrangement
Ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has debunked reports that it has released its zoning arrangement for offices to be contested ahead of the 2023 General Elections, as well as, those in its National Working Committee (NWC) to be elected at the forthcoming National Convention of the party.
A statement purportedly issued by the APC leadership and signed by its leader, Mai Mala Buni, Tuesday, emerged with the party allegedly zoning the Presidency to the South region, Vice President to the North, while the position of the National Chairman of the party was allotted to the North, under the arrangement.
However, reacting to the reports through the Director General, Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, the Chairman, APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), and Governor of Yobe State , Buni, dismissed the zoning arrangenment as ‘false, baseless, unfounded, misleading and has nothing to do with him.’
The statement which was also released via the APC’s verified Twitter handle (@OfficialAPCNg), said the purported zoning ‘has nothing to do with the Chairman and the party.’
“The attention of His Excellency the Executive Governor of Yobe State and Chairman APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has been drawn to media publications with purported zoning of offices allegedly announced by him.
“His Excellency has in clear and unambiguous terms denied the said list, saying, it is false, baseless, unfounded, misleading and has nothing to do with him
“The Chairman of the CECPC, said the party has not taken any decision at any fora on anything relating to zoning of offices
“The publication is just a figment of the author’s imagination that has nothing to do with the Chairman and the party.
“The public is hereby urged to disregard the purported list as it is misleading and completely false.
Governor Buni also urged the press to resist unverified stories and rumours, and to always verify all issues related to the party assuring that the doors of the party are always open,” the statement by Buni read, Wednesday.
