NGX: Investors record N262.18bn gain as ASI inches up further by 1.04%
Equities market closed on a positive note, as NGXASI appreciated by +1.04% to close at 47,111.21 basis points as against +0.91% appreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) return currently stands at +10.29%.
Market breadth closed positive as SEPLAT led 36 Gainers as against 21 Losers topped by CAVERTON at the end of today’s session an improved performance when compared with previous outlook.
Market turnover closed negative as volume moved down by -21.63% as against +39.03% uptick recorded in the previous session. TRANSCORP, FIDELITYBK and ACCESS were the most active to boost market turnover. GUARANTY and NGXGROUP topped market value list.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 341,516,320 shares in 6,417 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,692,321,679.14, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, January 31), today’s data shows 22% decline in volume, 7% improvement in turnover, but 1% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 25.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 112 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 36 gainers and 21 losers. Seplat Petroleum Development Co. led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 869.00 per share, followed by Conoil (+9.79%), Academy Press (+9.57%) and RT Briscoe (+9.09%). On the losing side, Caverton Offshore Support Group came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.5% at NGN 1.62 per share, followed by Eterna (-9.17%), NCR Nigeria (-9.09%) and Japaul Gold and Ventures (-7.5%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 32.1 million traded shares, followed by Fidelity Bank (25.2m), Access Bank (23.5m) and Guaranty Trust Holding (21.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 486.54 (1.04%) points to close at 47,111.21, representing a 1-week gain of 2.55%, a 4-week gain of 9.44%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 10.29%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Premium Index (+2.04%; +0.09% 1WK; +4.39% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+1.5%; +1.67% 1WK; +4.59% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.94%; +0.7% 1WK; +2.82% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+5.43%; +6.96% 1WK; +20.34% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+2.16%; +3.77% 1WK; +5.29% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (+2.15%; +7.48% 1WK; +11.02% YTD).
