NGX market capitalisation dips by over N20bn, as ASI depreciates 11 points

The NGX closed on a negative note amidst sell-offs and buy-interests as the benchmark All-Share Index (ASI) depreciated by 11 basis points.

The ASI closed at 47,279.92 points, to reflect a decline of 0.11% from the previous trading day and a Year-to-Date (YTD) return of 10.68%. Meanwhile, the market capitalization decreased by N26.88 billion.

 At the end of the last weekday of trading on theNGX, a total of 225,685,583 shares in 4,093 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,385,760,409.65, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, February 3), today’s data shows 35% decline in volume, 38% decline in turnover, and 17% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 25.5 trillion.

In the aggregate, 104 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 18 gainers and 24 losers. SCOA Nigeria led the gainers with 9.65% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.25 per share, followed by LivingTrust Mortgage Bank (+8.77%), Jaiz Bank (+5.97%) and Guinea Insurance (+4.76%). On the losing side, Presco came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 94.50 per share, followed by N.E.M. Insurance Company (-9.76%), International Breweries (-9.4%) and University Press (-5.66%). Fidelity Bank recorded the highest volume of 24.9 million traded shares, followed by RT Briscoe (23.6m), Transcorp Nigeria (16.4m) and Chams (15.2m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 49.88 (-0.11%) points to close at 47,279.92, representing a 1-week gain of 2.33%, a 4-week gain of 7.81%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 10.68%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Premium Index (+0.02%; +4.68% 1WK; +5.63% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-0.2%; +2.92% 1WK; +4.75% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.48%; +1.84% 1WK; +3.03% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.18%; +0.83% 1WK; +9.12% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.01%; +3.41% 1WK; +6.41% YTD), and NGX ASeM Index (+0%).
