Gov. Obiano announces retirement from active politics, launches wife’s senatorial ambition

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has said he would be retiring from politics to take care of himself after his eight years tenure as Governor.
Obiano however, disclosed that his wife would be contesting for Senatorial seat in the upcoming general elections.
Obiano spoke on Saturday night after leading journalists on inspection of two of his legacy projects, namely: International Conference Centre (ICC) and Anambra International Passenger and Cargo Airport, Umueri.
“Let me finish this tenure first. I wish to retire and look after myself. But my wife will contest in the Senatorial election”, he said.
The Governor said he had denied himself sleep in his efforts to uplift the lots of Anambra, adding that he was happy it was a dream come true.
He enumerated some of the legacy projects he embarked on to include: Anambra International Passenger and Cargo Airport, Umueri; Awka city stadium and the International Conference Centre, Awka.
He further disclosed that first Cargo flight would land on the airport two weeks time whereas the stadium would be opened on March 9 with the launching of book on him and his achievements in office.
Obiano also said he completed 131 roads, adding that in months ahead, Anambra would begin to reap the benefits of being an oil producing State.
