Court voids APC congresses in Anambra
[From CHINEDU NWAFOR, Abakaliki]
High Court sitting in Awka on Wednesday voided the congresses conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) last month in Anambra State.
Seventeen former chairmen of APC in Anambra state led by Mr. Lawrence Emegini had gone to court seeking a declaration that their tenures as local government chairmen of the Party had not elapsed.
In suit no: 2022 A/3/2022, the former Caretaker Chairmen and Ward Representatives challenged the validity of the Congresses conducted by the APC on January, 2022.
Justice Ike Ogu in his ruling on Wednesday held that the APC congresses contravened the initial Interlocutory Injunction given by the court.
He ruled that the suit filed by one Lawrence Emegini and others against APC succeeded.
The court held that the tenure of wards, local government areas and states executives elected during 2018 congresses in Anambra state had not expired.
According to Justice Ogu, whatever congress conducted by APC and its representatives in the state contravened the order of the court and remained voided.
Counsel to the plaintiffs Chief P.I. Ikwueto (SAN) said that his clients had been vindicated by the decision of the court.
The State legal Adviser to the sacked APC executive, Mr Chikwunoso Chinwuba, said they would study the judgment and take a decision.
