Police round up 13 suspects for alleged robbery, touting, others in Anambra

Police in Anambra have arrested 13 suspects for alleged robbery, touting, vandalism and other sundry offences in the State.
The arrest of some of the suspect involved in touting and illegal revenue collection followed the ban of such activities in the State by Governor Charles Soludo.
State police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said a a gun, stolen car, and other incriminating items were recovered from the suspects.
“The suspects, namely: Emmanuel Igwe aged 20 years, Chukwudi Obasi, 38 years, Izuchukwu Enemuwa 28 years and Uchenna Benedict, aged 28 years were on March 23, 2022 arrested along the Headbridge, Onitsha while touting and collecting revenue illegally from motorists and other members of the public,” the police said.
Also, one Chimezie Nwankwo aged 34 years from Ezimunya village, Umunya, was intercepted and arrested on March 23, 2022, along airport road, Neteje and recovered a Hiace bus, three hammers, two axes and a police belt with which he, alongside two others still at large, terrorised citizens and stole armoured cables installed around the Anambra State Airport.
“One Ali Friday, a male aged 28 years, of Dusogu Village; Awkuzu, Onuorah Chukwuemeka, 21years old of Eziama village; Igbariam, Igboegbunam Chiemelie, 20 of Amabor Village; Abba, Chinedu Chukwuobi aged 45years of Imengu Village; Igbariam and Oforbuike Alegu, 27 years of Akpu Village, Abagana; were also on March 22, 2022 arrested for being in possession of vandalized armoured cables and a car battery; while on March 24,2022, Chukwuemeka Anyanti, 26years, Chijoke Anyanti, 22years, Onyedika Anyanti, 20years, allales and natives of Nkwelle Village, in Oyi Local council area of the state were arrested for being in possession of one locally fabricated single barrel pistol and two live cartridges,” the statement added.
The statement noted the determination of Commissioner of Police Echeng Echeng towards weeding out all criminal elements in the state and enjoined all law-abiding citizens of the State to remain vigilant and continue to support the Command especially through prompt and accurate information.
