NGX: Investors record N27.36bn loss as ASI depreciates by -0.11% to maintain bearish posture
Equities market closed on a negative note, as NGXASI depreciated by -0.11% to close at 46,843.09 basis points as against -0.15% depreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) return currently stands at +9.66%.
Market breadth closed Negative as PZ led 16 gainers as against 18 losers topped by International breweries at the end of today’s session an unimproved performance when compared with previous outlook.
Market turnover closed negative as volume moved down by -40.45% as against +103.22% uptick recorded in the previous session. Chams, Transcorp, and FBNH were the most active to boost market turnover. Zenith Bank and FBNH topped market value list.
At the end of today’s trading session today, a total of 214,327,583 shares in 4,125 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 1,790,298,928.48, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, March 28), today’s data shows 40% decline in volume, 31% decline in turnover, and 20% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 25.3 trillion.
In the aggregate, 107 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 16 gainers and 18 losers. PZ Cussons Nigeria led the gainers with 9.8% share price appreciation closing at NGN 11.20 per share, followed by Japaul Gold and Ventures (+9.68%), FCMB Group (+9.32%) and Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (+4.92%). On the losing side, International Breweries came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 4.50 per share, followed by Veritas Kapital Assurance (-8.7%), FTN Cocoa Processors (-5.71%) and Fidelity Bank (-4.88%). Chams recorded the highest volume of 30.4 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (30.3m), Transcorp Nigeria (20.5m) and FBN Holdings (18.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 50.05 (-0.11%) points to close at 46,843.81, representing a 1-week loss of 0.66%, a 4-week loss of 1.35%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 9.66%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (-0.12%; -2.49% 1WK; +1.35% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-0.18%; -1.32% 1WK; +3.71% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0%; +0.13% 1WK; +5.45% YTD), NGX Premium Index (-0.1%; +0.07% 1WK; +6.68% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (-0.11%; -0.64% 1WK; +13.35% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (-0.16%; -0.48% 1WK; +5.37% YTD).
