Soludo officially flags-off Onitsha-Okpoko clean-up exercise, seeks people’s cooperation for a clean environment
Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo on Saturday began the inspection and formal flag-off of the clean-up exercise of Okpoko and Onitsha environs
Recall that Soludo had promised during his electioneering campaign to massively clean-up Okpoko and other vicinity around the Onitsha axis and modernize it.
On taking the oath of office he embarked on his first official visit to Okpoko the following day to access the level of environmental degradation within the area. Thereafter, he deployed bulldozers under the supervision of the Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim to begin the massive clean-up of the urban slum
The Governor officially visited the Onitsha and Okpoko areas during which he spoke to the people on the need to keep the environment clean and to also stop dumping refuse inside the drainage
He advised that a healthy clean environment can impact positively on the health of the people even as he reassured the people of his determination of not only to clean the area but to also make it habitable for them.
He, again, added that the activities of the “agberos” which has become a menace has also been banned in the metropolis
The Governor was accompanied on the trip by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Solo Chukwulobelu; Chief of Staff, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, Deputy Chief of Staff and State Chief Protocol, Hon Chinedu Nwoye and other top government functionaries.
On hand to receive and conduct the governor and his entourage around, were Dr. Ibezim; Ogbaru LGA TC chairman, Hon Arinze Awogu, Hon Chike Anyaonu and several others, including the ecstatic crowd who were happy and singing praises of Governor Soludo for coming to their rescue
Governor Soludo after going round the area, expressed satisfaction at the work done so far.
