‘Vacate Eziukwu/Azikiwe road or be arrested,’ Abia Govt warns car wash operators
[From BONIFACE OKORO, Umuahia]
Abia Government has ordered car wash operators along Eziukwu/Azikiwe Road to vacate the area immediately.
State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, who gave the order Tuesday evening, also directed officials of the State Traffic and Indiscipline Management Agency (TIMAAS), State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Chairman of Aba South local government area and police to deploy to the area with a view to arresting those who flout the order.
Ikpeazu expressed anger that the car wash operators and others were sabotaging the efforts of his administration to fix the road which has remained impassable for the last 35 years.
“From tomorrow, Wednesday (today), April 13th, 2022, any person caught washing cars around this area will be promptly arrested and the vehicle impounded and confiscated,” Ikpeazu said when he drove himself from No. 1 Eziukwu Road direct into the Eziukwu-Cemetary Market through Ama Ogbonna and No. 1 Azikiwe Road.
The Governor was able to access the road for first time, in over 35 years courtesy of the ongoing rreconstruction of the road by the Ikpeazu-led administration
After driving straight to the Eziukwu-Cemetry market where enthusiastic traders jubilated on sighting him, Ikpeazu was gravely disappointed that despite the clear demonstration of the resolve by his administration to completely recover that stretch of road and make life easier for the people, especially those who do business at the Eziukwu-Cemetary Market, “some very irresponsible and extremely unscrupulous individuals” were bent on sabotaging the efforts of government through the setting up of Car Washing Spots in the middle of the road, especially around Eziukwu by Azikiwe Road.
The Governor was particularly concerned that even as earth works and stone basing were being done around that area in readiness for asphalting, these persons persist in their illegal car washing activities which was affecting the ongoing works there.
“These acts of sabotage and irresponsibility must stop immediately,” Ikpeazu said, threatening that government would unleash its full paraphernalia of law enforcement against any person or group of persons who dare to continue the washing of cars around that area.
“All those involved in these acts are by this notice warned to leave the area immediately. From tomorrow, Wednesday, April 13th, 2022, any person caught washing cars around this area will be promptly arrested and the vehicle impounded and confiscated,” the Governor added.
He therefore directed the General Manager of TIMAAS, the leadership of ASEPA, in collaboration with the Executive Chairman of Aba South Local Government Area and the Nigeria Police, “to immediately relocate to the area and ensure full, total and immediate compliance” with his order.
The Governor further directed that any vehicle impounded as a consequence of violating his vacation order should be moved to the premises of the Central Police Station, Aba, and demobilized till further notice.
