Police foil attack on Nteje station in Anambra, kill suspected gunman

Police on Thursday morning foiled attack on Nteje Police Station, in Oyi Local council area of Anambra State and shot dead one of the gunmen.
The gunmen, it was gathered, attempted to attack Nteje police station.
Police spokesman in Anambra, Ikenga Tochukwu, who confirmed the incident, said operatives led by the State Commissioner, CP Echeng Echeng engaged the gunmen who stormed the station at about 3am and foiled the attack.
Ikenga said one type O6 rifle, one magazine and fifty- three live ammunition of 5.56mm and charms, were recovered from the gunmen.
CP Echeng led the crack squad, who responded to the distress call as the station came under attack by the deadly gang.
“The Police Operatives decisively dealt with the assailants”, the statement added.
“Not surprising, the superior fire of the Police Operatives made the assailants to flee the scene and the station was secured with all police operatives and arms intact,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the Command will not relent in delivering on its mandate on protection of life and properties.
The statement further quoted CP Echeng as commending the Officers and Men of the Command for their perseverance and painstaking efforts to weed out all criminal elements in the State.

“In the early hours of Thursday, 14th April, the Police Commissioner, CP Echeng Echeng led a team that engaged the the ragtag gunmen and neutralized one of them in the process.
“A 06 riffle, one magazine and many ammunition was recovered from the gunmen. The victim was seen with items believed to be charms tied round his waist. Obviously, the item failed him as he met his waterloo.
“Anambra Police Operatives led by CP Echeng Echeng today 14/4/2022 at about 3am foiled an attack by gunmen at Nteje Divisional headquarters Oyi LGA. The Operatives recover one type O6 rifle, one magazine and fifty- three live ammunition of 5.56mm and charms.
“The Commissioner of Police CP Echeng, led the crack squad, when responding to the distress call as the station came under attack by the deadly gang. The Police Operatives decisively dealt with the assailants.
“During the gun duel, one of the gunmen was neutralized and due to the superior fire of the Police Operatives made the assailants flee the scene. The station was secured and all police operatives and arms are intact
