At the end of the first weekday , a total of 328,391,904 shares in 5,711 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,038,454,773.37, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, April 22), today’s data shows 4% decline in volume, 5% improvement in turnover, and 15% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 26.2 trillion.
In the aggregate, 111 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 41 gainers and 21 losers. UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 3.85 per share, followed by Ikeja Hotel (+9.93%), Eterna (+9.92%) and Oando (+9.9%). On the losing side, Glaxo Smithkline Consumer came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 7.2% at NGN 5.80 per share, followed by Unity Bank (-6%), Academy Press (-5.98%) and Japaul Gold and Ventures (-5.88%). Zenith Bank recorded the highest volume of 35.8 million traded shares, followed by Oando (30.8m), AXA Mansard Insurance (23.1m) and Transcorp Nigeria (20.7m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 83.71 (0.17%) points to close at 48,543.36, representing a 1-week gain of 2.17%, a 4-week gain of 3.37%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 13.64%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.87%; +2.73% 1WK; +7.12% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.35%; +1.86% 1WK; +7.63% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+2.45%; +5.84% 1WK; +1.05% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+1.44%; +7.9% 1WK; +39.91% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+1.34%; +3.41% 1WK; +12.55% YTD), and NGX Insurance Index (+0.39%; +0.34% 1WK; -5.41% YTD).
