Newborn baby found dumped in carton, as police in Enugu commence investigation

Lifeless body of a newborn baby has been found in Enugu.
The body was dumped inside an empty carton at the middle of the road close to Nsukka Old Motor Park in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.
A source told Oracle Today on Tuesday in Nsukka the dead baby was discovered around 6.20 am when a passenger who wanted to cross the road to board bus saw it in a carton and raised the alarm.
He said: “I was loading passengers around 6:20am when someone shouted, “see a dead baby in a carton.” The shout attracted the attention of people around and people rushed to the scene.
“The baby boy must have been dumped there last night and he might have died of cold because it rained Monday night,” he said.
He said police later came around 9.35 am to carry the dead baby.
The Enugu State Police command said it had commenced investigations to fish out person(s) who dumped the lifeless body.
The Command’s spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe who confirmed the incident, said, “Investigation has commenced to fish out the person/s that dumped new born baby in a carton in Nsukka town.
“The lifeless body of the baby was moved to the hospital by Police Operatives and was confirmed dead by doctors on duty. Further development will be communicated to the public.”
