2023 Enugu Guber: Jim Nwobodo names Peter Mba as Ugwuanyi’s successor
From Chinedu Nwafor, Abakaliki
The Governor of old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo said Mr Peter Mba is the best person to succeed the Enugu state Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
This is coming barely 24 hours to the PDP governorship primaries in Enugu State.
Mr Peter Mba, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the PDP, hails from Nkanu East.
The endorsement of Mba by Chief Nwobodo, who is apparently speaking for Governor Ugwuanyi, came after months of speculations on who would be the likely preferred successor of Ugwuanyi.
Addressing a press conference in Enugu on Tuesday, Chief Nwobodo, said he brought Mba to join governorship race due to his experience and antecedent in private sector.
He said Mba would deliver dividends of democracy to the people
He said “we believe that power should rotate to all senatorial district in the state in order to sustain the peace that our amiable Governor has established in the state already.
“I brought Peter Mba to succeed Ugwuanyi because I knew there is an understanding among the people of the state that governorship should rotate among the three senatorial zones and because Nkanu East is backward in terms of development hence the need to consider them.
“Secondly, I was looking for somebody who can develop the state, the way it was, when I left it and in October 2019, to be specific, I invited him to my house and told him to consider running for a position as the governor of Enugu and he came back to me after some weeks and consider to run,”.
Chief Nwobodo who expressed optimism that Mba will consolidate with Ugwuanyi’s achievements in bringing stability and peace to the state appealed to PDP delegates to support Mba as PDP primary election holds on Wednesday.
He appealed to Ike Ekweremadu and his supporters to join hands with the party leadership and support Mba to emerge as the flag bearer of the party in Enugu state.
“I have asked Ekweremadu to withdraw all court cases because we need peace in Enugu state so we all must join hands together to bring peace and development in the state,” he said.
