From Chinedu Nwafor, Abakaliki
Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, Governor of Anambra State has imposed dusk to dawn curfew on eight local government areas (LGAs) of the State.
The eight LGAs are the areas being ravaged by hoodlums.
Soludo in a state wide broadcast on Wednesday said the curfew takes effect from Thursday, 26, 2022.
The measure, according to him, is to curb the incessant attacks in the State.
The curfew is placed on the movemtn of motorcycles (okada), tricycles (keke), and shuttle buses in the affected the local governments areas.
The eight LGAs are: Aguata, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Ogbaru, Orumba North and Orumba South from 6pm to 6am.
“This will be in place until further notice,” Soludo said.
Also, Soludo said, until further notice, motorcycles, keke and shuttle buses are banned from operating in those local governments on Mondays until the Sit-at-Home completely stops.
“Likewise, no part of Anambra State, whether house, bush or forest will be used as camps for these criminals. Such land if discovered shall be taken over by the State Government and pursuant to its powers under the Land Use Act, revoke and acquire any of such land.
“The government also offers reward to any one who brings useful information on location of any criminal or criminal gangs while reaffirming the N10million ransome to any one with useful information on the killers of Hon. Okechukwu Okoye and his aide.
“In addition, all communities are hereby charged to take over their communities completely and through the leadership of their Town Unions and Traditional Rulers give weekly security reports
“To that extent, all landlords are hereby directed to proceed on “Operation Know Your Tenant” by keeping appropriate records of their tenants and report anyone suspected of being involved in criminal activities. Each community leadership must keep full register of all tenants in their communities, their occupation, etc and keep an eye on their activities.
“The State Government shall as an emergency measure, disband the leadership of any community which fails to report criminal activities in their communities or immediately respond to the requests contained in this address”.
Soludo regretted that all the measures he took on assumption of office to uplift the state had not yielded results.
