Hon. Solomon Ahwinahwi has emerged winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency primary election held on Monday at the Ughelli township stadium in Ughelli North Local Government Council of Delta State
Hon. Ahwinahwi was declared winner of the re-run primary election occasioned by the cancellation of the first one following some irregularities observed, in a statement, by the PDP National Working Committee, NWC.
While announcing the results, the Returning Officer for the primary election, Prof. Frank Collins Okafor announced that Hon. Solomon Ahwinahwi polled 80 votes from the 88 delegates that were accredited for the election to beat other contenders. Hon. Julius Akpovoka scored 1 vote, while Chief Eunice Okoh scored 1 vote. The Returning Officer also announced 3 void votes. Hon. Samuel Mariere had earlier stepped down for Hon. Solomon Ahwinahwi.
Addressing jubilant party faithful, loyalists and supporters after the exercise, Hon Ahwinawi described the victory as proof of acceptance by his constituents.
The former lawmaker attributed his victory to God’s grace, and thanked the PDP delegates for electing him as the Party’s candidate. He hailed the aspirants for their show of maturity and understanding, noting that the victory was not for him alone but for the constituency and the contestants, who are members of one big political family.
The two-time member of the Green Chamber of the National Assembly
thanked party leaders and members for trusting him with their votes and thereafter sought their support for him to succeed in the general elections. He also called on other aspirants who contested with him in the primary election to join forces with him ‘‘with a view to coasting home victory for the party at the 2023 general election”
