‘Those who know should point at specific people who did this,’ as Buhari condemns killing of police officers in Imo
President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the killing of four police officers, as well as some nationals of the Niger Republic by unknown gunmen, Friday, in Imo State.
Four police operatives, including two men and two female officers, were reportedly killed by gunmen who attacked a police divisional headquarters, Friday night.
Also, gunmen reportedly killed nationals of the Niger Republic in the South East region, same Friday.
Four policemen were killed on Friday night when criminals invaded Agwa Divisional Police headquarters in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo state.
Part of the division and vehicles, including the one belonging to the Divisional Police Officer were burnt by the attackers.
This is even as the gunmen invaded the house of a resident identified only as Ejike, shot him dead and shot his wife before fleeing.
According to the sources, the gunmen came in a heavy duty truck (tipper) and two Toyota Sienna cars and invaded the police division at about 11pm.
“It was this morning that we heard that the Agwa Divisional Police headquarters was attacked. Four policemen were killed. Two male officers were shot dead while two female police officers were burnt to death.
“Part of the building were the female officers were occupying was burnt. Vehicles at the division, including the one belonging to the DPO were burnt. They also went to the house of an Okada man known as Ejike, shot him dead and shot his wife. His wife is alive,” said an indigene of the community.
In his reaction to the killings, President Buhari, Sunday, reiterated his unequivocal condemnation of the attacks against non-indigenes and law enforcement officials by terrorists in South East region of the country.
President Buhari promised all possible action in conducting a speedy investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The President urged community and religious leaders to speak more forcefully against the killings, stand up and defend the ethos of our cultural and religious heritage.
“Those who know should point at specific people who did this,” he stated.
Buhari expressed his administration’s unwavering commitment to peace and stability in the southeast and the entire country, saying ‘the reports of killings anywhere were sad and unwelcome.’
“He offered his condolences to the families of the law enforcement agents murdered and to the government and people of the Niger Republic whose citizens were cruelly beheaded by the beastly attackers,” read the statement by the Presidency, Sunday.
