NGX: Equities Market loses N9.87bn as ASI depreciates by 0.04%
Nigerian Equities Market retracted to close in the red zone as key market indicator declined by 18.29bps as market breadth remains negative.
The NGX All-Share Index dipped by 0.04% to close at 49,691.17 basis points as against 0.10% gain recorded to close at 49,709.46 basis points at the end of the previous trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records N9.87bn gain.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 128,786,284 shares in 3,492 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,124,463,165.87, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, August 16), today’s data shows 37% decline in volume, 151% improvement in turnover, but 4% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 26.8 trillion.
In the aggregate, 108 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 10 gainers and 16 losers. Prestige Assurance Company led the gainers with 9.09% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.48 per share, followed by Sovereign Trust Insurance (+8%), Lasaco Assurance (+6.48%) and Unity Bank (+4.65%).
On the losing side, Courteville Business Solutions came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.8% at NGN 0.46 per share, followed by SCOA Nigeria (-9.79%), Skyway Aviation Handling Co. (-9.73%) and Regency Alliance Insurance (-8%). FBN Holdings recorded the highest volume of 28.4 million traded shares, followed by Zenith Bank (16.7m), United Bank for Africa (11.2m) and Cornerstone Insurance Company (11.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 18.29 (-0.04%) points to close at 49,691.17, representing a 1-week loss of 0.77%, a 4-week loss of 4.78%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 16.33%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.03%; -1.31% 1WK; +3.19% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.07%; -1.7% 1WK; -0.49% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.86%; +2.25% 1WK; -11.06% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0%; -3.44% 1WK; -7.21% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (-0.02%; -0.67% 1WK; +28.01% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (-0.06%; -0.85% 1WK; +9.57% YTD).
