NGX: Equities Market gains N104.54bn as ASI appreciates by 0.39%
Nigerian Equities Market erased previous day loss to close in the green zone as the key market indicator inches up by 193.82bps amid positive market breadth
The NGX All-Share Index inched up by 0.39% to close at 49,836.51 basis points as against 0.07% loss recorded to close at 49,642.69 basis points at the end of the previous trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records N104.54billion loss.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 367,340,604 shares in 3,725 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,237,374,560.57, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, August 30), today’s data shows 192% improvement in volume, 5% improvement in turnover, but 10% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 26.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 102 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 20 gainers and 12 losers. Guinness Nigeria led the gainers with 9.88% share price appreciation closing at NGN 87.90 per share, followed by Caverton Offshore Support Group (+9.62%), Transcorp Nigeria (+8.65%) and Nigerian Exchange Group (+6.43%).
On the losing side, Consolidated Hallmark Insurance came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 7.69% at NGN 0.60 per share, followed by Unilever Nigeria (-7.22%), Sovereign Trust Insurance (-7.14%) and UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust (-7.04%). Sterling Bank recorded the highest volume of 162 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (27.7m), United Bank for Africa (26.6m) and FBN Holdings (22.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 193.82 (0.39%) points to close at 49,836.51, representing a 1-week gain of 2.39%, a 4-week loss of 1.5%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 16.67%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.38%; +1.97% 1WK; +3.17% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.37%; +0.65% 1WK; -1.91% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+1.8%; +2.83% 1WK; +1.91% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.71%; +0.69% 1WK; +5.12% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.62%; +0.25% 1WK; -4.6% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+0.47%; +4% 1WK; +31.33% YTD).
