NGX: Equities Market gains N28.74bn as ASI appreciates up by 0.11%
Nigerian Equities Market maintained positive posture as the key market indicator inches up further by 53.29bps while market breadth remained positive.
The NGX All-Share Index inched up by 0.11% to close at 49,889.80 basis points as against 0.39% gain recorded to close at 49,836.51 basis points at the end of the previous trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records N28.74bn gain.
At the end of today’s trading session ,a total of 229,120,612 shares in 3,575 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 1,749,760,108.04, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, August 31), today’s data shows 38% decline in volume, 46% decline in turnover, and 4% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 26.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 102 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 14 gainers and 13 losers. Pharma-Deko led the gainers with 7.43% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.88 per share, followed by UPDC (+5%), Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (+5%) and FCMB Group (+4.92%). On the losing side, Mutual Benefits Assurance came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.38% at NGN 0.29 per share, followed by Computer Warehouse Group (-9.09%), Transcorp Nigeria (-7.08%) and Lasaco Assurance (-6.8%). Sterling Bank recorded the highest volume of 109 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (34.3m), Fidelity Bank (15.6m) and Mutual Benefits Assurance (9.18m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 53.29 (0.11%) points to close at 49,889.80, representing a 1-week gain of 0.46%, a 4-week loss of 1.37%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 16.79%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.01%; +0.32% 1WK; +3.18% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.57%; -0.04% 1WK; -2.46% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.99%; +1.34% 1WK; -10.64% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.33%; +0.84% 1WK; +31.77% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.32%; +0.86% 1WK; +54.74% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.09%; +2.14% 1WK; +2.01% YTD).
