Cross River: We are ashamed of status of our state – DG Liberty Group
From ANIEKAN ANIEKAN, Calabar
The Director General of Liberty Support Group, Peter Igbe, said that the group is ashamed of the present status of Cross River State.
The DG this at the State Secretariat of the People’s Democratic Party in Calabar during a courtesy visit on the Chairman of the party ,Venatius Ikem.
He said that this informed the decision to float the Liberty Group with the sole aim of mobilizing Cross Riverians and its well-wishers towards enthroning a responsible government in the state to restore the lost glory of Cross River.
In his words ” the deplorable situation in our beloved state informed our formation.
“Gone are the days we used to introduce ourselves proudly as Cross Riverians, today we are ashamed of our state status.
“The damage on our collective heritage and psyche are simply unprecedented”, he said.
He added that to remedy this dire situation, the group decided to pitch tent with the PDP and unanimously support the ambition of the PDP Guber Candidate in the state, Professor Sandy Onor.
“We opted to pitch our tent with the PDP after a holistic appraisal of the various governorship candidates on parade across the parties.
“We have unanimously agreed that Senator Sandy Onor is the best option in all ramifications, hence our decision to team up with the PDP to usher in Senator Sandy Onor as the next governor of our state”, the DG said.
Also speaking, the patron of Liberty Group Sir Philio Adie described as saddening the total collapse of governance in the state.
He said Cross River State was once a model for other states in the terms of cleanliness, portable water supply , blanket security network, tourism, industry, budgeting, and seamless operations in MDA’s.
Welcoming the team, Venatius Ikem, the State Chairman of the PDP said the present situation in the state is a worst scenario hence the need to reclaim the state from vandals in government.
In his words, “Our predicament in Cross River is even the worst scenario.
“The commercial oriented destruction of our historic ecosystem, massive looting of our treasury, siphoning of the bailouts and Bakassi stabilization funds as well as the deliberate destruction vented on our common heritage and apparatus of government have taken us backward in developmental index.
“There is the urgent need to reclaim our beloved state from these vandals in government who have nothing to offer other than ligning their pockets and enriching their families with our common patrimony”, the state chairman said.
He opined that the present state of the country coupled with the maladministration in the state under Governor Ben Ayade clearly portray the PDP as the viable alternative to the quagmire.
He enjoined support groups to operate by the dictates of the law and replicate their structures across the 3321 polling units in the Cross River State to facilitate the attainment of set objectives through effective mobilization.
